about
This is a song I wrote for our ailing Rio Grande River. Drought conditions and dams having rendered this once vibrant river to a dry bed for a large part of the year.
lyrics
Waiting for the River to Run
Music and lyrics: Alison Reynolds
Dry winds are blowing from the west
Putting survival to the test
No water flows along the river bed
Wind blows the sand up to the edge
Oh, waiting for the river to run
Oh, waiting for the river to run.
Cold winds blow hard down from the north
Freezing the land right to the core.
No snow is falling on the mountain sides
A once mighty river now runs dry
Oh, waiting for the river to run
Oh, waiting for the river to run.
We build the dams for our control
Disrupting nature’s perfect flow
So it goes
As the river dries
Tears we cry, oh!
Dry winds are blowing from the west
Putting survival to the test
No water flows along the river bed
Wind blows the sand up to the edge
Oh, waiting for the river to run
Oh, waiting for the river to run.
